Saturday’s Capitol Cup races will kick-off the pro/am races, replacing the Crystal Cup that has been a part of this event the past 15 years. Excitement within the peloton is building, with many teams looking to win in their National Championship jerseys in front of our Nation’s Capitol.
“We are all gunning to grab the day one victory in front of the Capitol,” said Lucas Bourgoyne of the Team Cadence Cyclery P/B Encore Wire, US Pro Criterium National Champion. “I would love to stand on that podium in front of the capital. To win clad in my new Stars and Stripes Jersey on home turf against some of the top international teams trying to disrupt our momentum would cement my team’s status as a force to recon with!”
In addition to Bourgoyne, newly minted US National Champions will also include his teammate Luke Fetzer (U23 Criterium), Kendall Ryan (Women’s Pro Crirterium) of L36ion LA, Cassie Hickey (U23 Criterium), of CCB/American Systems, Cloe Patrick (Women’s U23 TT) of Cynisca/Appian, Emy Ehrilich of Virginia Blue Ridge/2028/Deloitte (Women’s Pro TT) and local racers Alyssa Sarkisov (Jr Road and Criterium) of the DC Devo team and her teammate Lilly Edwards (Jr TT).
“Racing in front of the Nation’s Capital is going to be monumental!”, said Kendall Ryan of the L36ion LA Team and the current Women’s Pro Criterium National Champion. “I also really enjoy racing on a new course to find the spots that suit my strengths. I have a long sprint, so I’m looking forward to testing my legs against some of the top sprinters racing in the US!”
National Champions from around the world will include Cory Williams, (BLZ), Dario Rapps (GER), Oliver Leroy (REU) and Ben Oliver (NZL).
Defending Clarendon Cup Champions Marlies Mejias Garcia (CUB) of the Virginia Blue Ridge/2028/Deloitte and Brendan Rhim will lead their teams. Mejias is also the 2024 overall Omnium winner. Bryan Gomez (COL) of Kingdom Elite Racing on the Men’s side will be returning to defend his overall title. All of our race rosters can be found HERE.
The 1.4km course on Saturday will be located between the National Mall and the US Capitol building, along 3rd ST, between Constitution Ave, NW and Independence Ave, SW. Those fields will also participate in day two of the two-day Omnium in Arlington, VA on Sunday for the 27th Edition of the Clarendon Cup which features the 1km course around the Clarendon Metro stop.
In additional to these featured events, the Capitol Cup will offer two amateur races and a free kid’s race. Visit our website to view both days courses HERE.
